Echoes of the Beat: A Journey Through Time and Sound

Image
In an attempt to offload the weight of stress clouding my mind, I decided to surrender to the healing power of music. Craving a distraction, I made my way to a popular lounge on Ring Road, hoping that the night would offer some relief. To my delight, the DJ on duty knew his craft well. His hands worked magic on the turntables, and every beat that filtered through the speakers seemed to understand exactly what my spirit needed. For two full hours, I was immersed in a beautiful blend of Nigerian hip hop, an unbroken stream of melodies from both the old school and the new. The selection was flawless. Each song was a nostalgic wave, and I willingly let it carry me. As the music coursed through me, my mind drifted back to my childhood days in Ikeja, Lagos. Growing up in those years, our musical world was painted in foreign colors. American hip hop ruled the airwaves. Names like MC Hammer, Busta Rhymes, and Coolio echoed from every corner. Their rhythms defined our style, our dan...

From Rejection to Recognition: Funke Akindele Shares Emotional Journey to Stardom

Image
After the release of Jenifa’s Diary Season One, landing roles in Nollywood became incredibly tough for me. Most of the offers I received were for Yoruba movies, but I had dreams of making a name in the broader Nollywood industry. Then came a breakthrough—GLO offered me an ambassadorship deal. I traveled to South Africa alongside big names like Ini Edo, Rita Dominic, and other top celebrities of that time. As we sat down to negotiate, it was the first time I ever discussed millions. My legs trembled, and all I could say was, “Yes sir, yes ma, thank you, God bless you.” But the real shock came when we landed in South Africa. Not a single soul recognized me. The crowd rushed to take pictures with Ini Edo and the others, but I was completely overlooked. It felt like I didn’t even exist. That moment hit me hard—I realized I was only known in Yoruba movies. I slipped into depression. To make matters worse, my younger sister, who had come along, kept asking, “Sister, dem no know y...

Patrick Doyle Alleges That Real Estate In Nigeria Is Now Being Used To Launder Money

Image
Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle claims that the real estate industry has become a front for financial crimes in Nigeria. He alleged that real estate is the leading form of money laundering in the country. He said “If you go to Abuja and many estates in the Lekki corridor, you will see plenty of houses completed and uninhabited. So, if it’s the prices that are too high, how come people are still building and they are not being occupied? That should tell you something. “It’s funny because real estate has become one of the leading forms of money laundering. A lot of it is illegal money finding expression in the construction industry. “It’s artificial. It beats my imagination how we have so many uncompleted buildings in a place where there is a shortage of housing for people. But there are a lot of empty estates. Go to Abuja, it’s crazy. “That only tells you that people are just using money that has been stolen to store up value, hoping that one day they will sell. Didn’t you hea...

Despite his strong inclination toward traditional worship, Fatomilola’s household was one of contrasting beliefs. His mother was a devout Christian who frequently urged him to join her at church, but he preferred staying with his father to learn about Ifa. This difference in religious perspectives often created tension, as his mother was displeased with his reluctance to embrace Christianity. While recognizing the potential strain on the family, Fatomilola’s father eventually intervened, insisting that he accompany his mothe...
