Joe Biden to sign executive order ending Muslim travel ban and 11 other Trump policies on first day in office

US  President-elect, Joe Biden plans to sign roughly a dozen executive orders on his first day in the White House, that will show a stunning rebuke of outgoing US President Donald Trump's policies .

The executive orders include rejoining the Paris climate accord and ending the travel ban on predominantly Muslim countries, according to a memo from incoming chief of staff Ron Klain released Saturday night, January 16.

Biden will also sign orders halting evictions and student loan payments during the coronavirus pandemic and issuing a mask mandate on all federal property.

 Klain's Saturday memo, which was first reported by the New York Times reads;

"During the campaign, President-elect Biden pledged to take immediate action to start addressing these crises and build back better," Klain writes.

"As president, he will keep those promises and sign dozens of executive orders, presidential memoranda, and directives to Cabinet agencies in fulfillment of the promises he made."

The memo also outlines that Biden plans to send Congress a large-scale immigration plan within his first 100 days in office which would offer a pathway to citizenship for the millions of undocumented immigrants currently in the United States.

Remember this week Biden announced his first legislative priority - a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package that included direct payments to Americans.

"Full achievement of the Biden-Harris Administration's policy objectives requires not just the executive actions the president-elect has promised to take, but also robust Congressional action," Klain wrote.

The day after Biden is inaugurated, according to Klain, he will "sign a number of executive actions to move aggressively to change the course of the COVID-19 crisis and safely re-open schools and businesses, including by taking action to mitigate spread through expanding testing, protecting workers, and establishing clear public health standards."

And on January 22, Biden will direct his Cabinet agencies to "take immediate action to deliver economic relief to working families bearing the brunt of this crisis," Klain writes.

From January 25 to February 1, Klain writes that Biden will issue orders on everything from directing his government to buy American products to beginning to fulfill promises to reform the criminal justice system.

During that week, Biden will also direct the federal government to determine how to reunite children separated from their families at the US-Mexico border, as well as sign additional orders aimed at tackling climate change and expanding access to health care.

"Of course, these actions are just the start of our work," Klain writes.

"Much more will need to be done to fight COVID-19, build our economy back better, combat systemic racism and inequality, and address the existential threat of the climate crisis. But by February 1st, America will be moving in the right direction on all four of these challenges — and more — thanks to President-elect Joe Biden's leadership."

Court remands two suspects arrested over failed kidnap of NNPC staff in Rivers

A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on FridayJanuary 15, remanded two suspects arrested over failed attempt to kidnap a staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Tamuno Igbikiberesima.

Igbikiberebima, a lawyer, had dispossessed the suspects, Godspower Saturday and David Simeon, of an AK47 dispossessed after they came to kidnap him at his residence in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state on 17 December 2020.

Both suspects are facing a seven-count charge including attempted kidnap and armed robbery of six others.

Chief Magistrate Beauty Okere, after listening to the prosecution team and the defendants, declined to entertain the matter. Okere also directed that the case file be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

She adjourned the matter to 24th February pending outcome of DPP legal advice after informing parties that the court lacks.

Meanwhile, Igbikiberebima had narrated that he overpowered the suspects because he noticed the obvious unprofessional way they handled the AK-47 rifle in their possession, while attempting to abduct him.

According to him, after noticing that the kidnappers were amateurs, he became encouraged to challenge them, saying that in the scuffle that ensued, the hoodlums were subdued, and they immediately abandoned him and fled before they were given a hot chase, and arrested by neighbours and passersby.

"I was making a call in front of my gate on December 17, 2020, when a black Toyota Camry suddenly pulled over with two occupants, and they ordered me to enter the vehicle. One of them came out with an AK-47 rifle and ordered me to enter the back seat. When he asked me to enter, I said ‘why should I enter’? He said he would  kill me. I begged him not to do that, and asked him what I had done," he narrated.

When I noticed how he was handling the gun, it appeared to me that he is not proficient in gun handling. I told myself that ‘ordinarily, one-on- one, this guy cannot beat me.’ That was the courage I had. When he faced the nozzle of the rifle down trying to cock the gun, I started struggling with him. In the process, both of us shot one bullet on the ground. When he saw a crowd coming, he left the rifle, and ran into the car, and they took off”, he stated.

"I then ran into my compound and brought out my Toyota Hilux, and some people outside my gate joined me to give them a hot chase. We overtook them at Apara Link Road, got them arrested, and handed them over to the police”, he explained.

He said  further that what gave him the courage to resist the hoodlums was because he thought that their intention was to assassinate him.

"I thought well, it is better for me to die in front of my gate so as to be more honourable, instead of following them to wherever they wanted to take me to." he added.

Gov. Diri removes Nengi, names Blessing Eradiri as Face of Bayelsa Girl Child

The Governor of Bayelsa state, Douye Diri, has removed Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi Hampson, as the Face of Bayelsa Girl Child.

The position now belongs to Ebizi Blessing Eradiri.

Miss Eradiri is the first female First Class graduate from the Faculty of Law at the Niger Delta University (NDU), a feat she repeated at the Nigerian Law School.

However, no reason was given by the governor for the new change but it may not be unconnected to the criticism drawn by the appointment of Nengi.

Many Nigerians had called for the Eradiri, a Bayelsa-born First Class Law Graduate, who has not only made Bayelsans proud but the entire Izon nation on her excellent performance at the Niger Delta University and the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus.

Some also argued that Eradiri has distinguished herself and should be the ‘Role Model’ to Bayelsa Youths.

However, Governor Giri took the bold step and announced Ebizi Blessing Eradiri as the New Face of Bayelsa on Monday, January 11, 2021.

While receiving her and her father, Boloupaye Eradiri, at the Government House, Yenagoa, Diri also gave her automatic employment to lecture at the NDU’s Faculty of Law.

The governor assured her of the state government’s support in advancing her educational career in any university of her choice anywhere in the world.

Diri, who announced Eradiri as the New Face of the Bayelsa Girl Child, said the gesture was aimed at making her a role model for young girls in the state and the entire Ijaw nation to emulate.

He equally dismissed speculations, particularly in the social media, about his government’s choice of honouring Miss Nengi Hampson of the last edition of Big Brother Naija, while refusing to recognise Eradiri, as false.

Diri, who expressed concern about the politicisation of issues in the state, however, assured that his administration’s investments in the education sector would remain a top priority.

Describing Eradiri as a brilliant and rising star, the governor congratulated her on making history in bagging first-class honours not only at the NDU but also at the Nigerian Law School.

He also sought the Federal Government assistance towards the young lawyer’s development beyond what the state government was offering to enable her to add value not only to her state but the entire country.

Speaking, the Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Clan, King Bubaraye Dakolo, said they were proud of the breakthroughs of their daughter from primary to the tertiary level and that she deserved to be encouraged.

King Dakolo, who described Eradiri as exceptionally good, said she had won over 50 laurels from her primary to tertiary education level.

Responding, Miss Eradiri expressed gratitude to Governor Diri for the honour and attributed her success to God and her exposure to good educational infrastructure.

They observed a minute’s silence in honour of the late Mrs. Eradiri.

NIN to become compulsory for vehicle registration from second quarter of 2021- FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC says beginning from the second quarter of 2021, the National Identity Number NIN will become compulsory whenever anyone is applying for vehicle registration.

According to the press release signed by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC , all applicants of vehicle registration will be expected to present their National Identification Number as a precondition for the registration of their vehicles, adding that there would be no waiver for anyone irrespective of their status in the society.

Explaining the importance of this to the national security architecture, the FRSC spokesperson further emphasized that the exercise has become very imperative seeing the critical role a harmonized database on citizens’ information will have on national development in terms of resolving the challenges of identifying individuals to assist security agencies in data collation and speedy retrievals to address critical national security challenges.

Kazeem appealed to members of the public who have not enrolled in the ongoing NIN registration at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to make haste while the sun shines as the Corps will not register any vehicle whose owner is not captured in the NIMC database.

"Beginning from the second quarter of this year (2021), If you want to register your vehicle, it is going to be compulsory for you to provide your NIN. This is part of the security checks. So once you provide your NIN, it makes the matter easier and helps the government in national planning, critical decision making and also enhance adequate Intelligence gathering for security of lives and properties" he said

You would recall that FRSC had commenced compliance on this directive since 21 December 2020, when the Corps Marshal mandated that all applicants for the National Driver’s Licence in Nigeria must present the National Identification Number (NIN) from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) before they can be captured for any class of the licences produced by the FRSC.

Pastor with House on the Rock Church dies of COVID-19

Senior Pastor of the church, Paul Adefarasin, announced his passing on social media and paid glowing tribute to the late clergyman who he described as a good man.

Pastor Adefarasin in his tribute warned Nigerians to take the COVID19 pandemic seriously and adhere to all the protocols.

Yesterday, I received the rude and shocking news of someone deeply dear to me and all of the House on the Rock family. The passing of Pastor Yinka Akinbami has become most painful because if there truly were good men, he was certainly one.

Till his passing, Pastor Akinbami was one of the senior presbyters of our church and has been with us for over 25-years, serving in the Family Life Directorate, coaching many exemplary men and women as they embarked upon the journey of building families.

Egbon Yinka,

your sudden passage is hard to understand, yet we bow respectfully to the sovereignty of God while we remain thankful for the decades of impactful work along with the exemplary life you lived while you were with us. As a dear egbon to me, even though you were older, we were close friends and I thank you for allowing me to be your pastor and spiritual father. The thought that I will return to church and not see you again on this side of the divide, is unbelievable. I have not been able to process this loss, however, I am sure of how much we will all miss you.

Family, kindly allow me to solicit your intercession for his dear wife of over 30 years; Pastor Tolu, his children, his children-inlaw, and grandchildren. We can only at best imagine how much pain they are feeling. We share the pain of his loss but they will feel it a lot more. So, please pray that God’s peace and strength envelopes them especially in this difficult moment.

It’s important to remind the community about the deadly nature of Covid-19 and its mutant virus strains. Please do your part by following all the recommended precautions. That way, you are able to protect yourself and others who become proximal to you. God bless and keep us all.

To my brother, Yinka Akinbami, sleep well till we meet to part no more.

Adieu to our fellow soldier

Grace to the whole family.

Trump and Trump related contents also banned on other social media platforms

More social media platforms have taken steps to ensure that their pages are Trump-free, days after he was accused of inciting an insurrection at US Capitol.

Recall that Twitter and Facebook/Instagram had earlier banned him from using their platforms after the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

More companies have taken steps to block/restrict Trump and/or Trump content. Some of these platforms include; Pinterest (for #StoptheSteal items), Shopify (for MAGA and other related merch), Twitch (no more Trump live streams), Snapchat (gone is Trump's account), Reddit (the r/The_Donald thread is dead) and even TikTok (which Trump was trying to ban himself).

At the moment, Parler (a social networking site/app that caters to the extreme right) is the only social media platform Donald Trump might have access to.

TMZ reported that Google already nixed it entirely (meaning you can't download it anymore if you're an Android user), but Apple hasn't done so yet. On Friday January 8, they gave Parler a 24-hour deadline to provide stricter guidelines about regulating posts, but it is still available as of now.

Democrats to start impeaching Trump again on Monday and trial 'would begin on Biden's inauguration

Multiple reports in US media are stating that democrats have drafted the single article for US President Donald Trump's impeachment which will be formally introduced on Monday January 11.

To succeed, two-thirds of senators would have to vote to impeach him. The impeachment article already has 180 co-sponsors as of Saturday afternoon.

The article reads in part; "In all of this, President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States government. He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transfer of power, and imperiled a coordinate branch of government. “He thereby betrayed his trust as president, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States. Wherefore, President Trump, by such conduct, has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to national security, democracy, and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office, and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law. "President Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, and profit under the United States.”

Multiple reports say Trump's trial will begin immediately after Biden's inauguration.

More than two years after his demise, billionaire Lulu-Briggs finally gets burial date

More than two years after his demise, the late business mogul, philanthropist, and industrialist, High Chief Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs will be finally laid to rest on March 13, 2021 according to an announcement by the Oruwari Briggs House of Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Until his death, the late Lulu-Briggs was also the Paramount Head of Oruwari House of Abonnema.

But for controversies and litigations that trailed his demise, including legal tussles in Nigerian and Ghanaian Courts over where the deceased truly died and who should take possession of his remains, the oil and gas industry player would have long been buried.

The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent restrictions by the federal and state governments as regards funerals and large gatherings further elongated the final burial rites.

Father Mbaka prophesies end of Buhari’s regime

A Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministries, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, has prophesied the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime.

This he said depends on Buhari’s ability to act fast and save his government from looming extinction.

Mbaka spoke at the 2020 edition of his popular annual December 31 Crossover Night ministration, advising the federal government to take swift moves to create jobs to prevent Nigerian youths from embarking on restiveness that may consume the regime.

The event, which held at the AMEN Arena, Enugu, was tagged, “Cornucopia of New Miracles from God”.

The fiery priest also took a swipe at the country’s lawmakers, especially members of the National Assembly (NASS).

Describing the lawmakers as “kidnappers”, he maintained that unless the Buhari administration hastened move to genuinely start taking care of the youths, that they (youths) “will rise and end the current political system”.

His words:

“The Holy Spirit of God asked me to warn the government of the day to be very careful; to change policies and take care of the youths without politicising their (youths’) condition.

“That the government should rise and urgently create jobs and innovate opportunities that would benefit the youths of the nation because they have suffered so much.

“Don’t politicise the condition of the youths, otherwise, they will arise and end the political system.

“Should the government fail to do so as soon as possible that time is coming when the youths will rise against the government, and that any attempt to stop them will end the government?”

Mbaka, who did not specify when the lurking youth agitation would take place, however, dropped another puzzling pronouncement.

He said: “I can see a year ahead; it is not specific whether it is in 2021 that this will happen, but it is within a time in the time of life, that the anger of God will befall many people in the political circle because they have looted so much and disgraced this nation enough.

“Those who should be serving the country have looted the country dry for their personal aggrandisement, such that our children and grandchildren no longer have a future”.

He pointed out that politicians had for long busied themselves in “packing and packing the nation’s commonwealth, refusing to create wealth, but that they now turned around to tag the youths kidnappers, criminals, hoodlums and so on.

He also declared that God was angry with past and present leaders for turning Nigerian youths into beggars in other countries due to overwhelming hardship in the nation, and urged them to find a way to right their wrongs.

“They should obey the voice of God, sit together and think out how to reshape Nigeria.

“The situation in the country portends wickedness, wicked ruling in high places, in the name of legislators; they are the real kidnappers, and the anger of God is upon them.

“I know they would want to attack this message, as usual, but I warn, let nobody, whether you are a politician or a man of God, attacks this message so you do not become a victim!

“Whoever that would conspire against this message or partake in any gang-up against me or this ministry, your evil plans will turn back and befall you.

“Be warned, this is no longer the Fr Mbaka of 2020 but that of 2021,” he said, adding that, “it will be fire for fire this year; if you attack us, you will be attacked.”

“They have kidnapped the opportunities meant for the youths, kidnapped the nation’s wealth and jobs meant for the youths.

“They have kidnapped a lot of infrastructure development,” he added.

Marriage, divorce, depression took me away from music - Jodie speaks about her rise and fall

This is teary. No one prays to rise and fall especially because of another fellow. Like seriously? Sigh!

In 2010 when soulful singer, Joy Eseoghene Odiete simply known as Jodie, released her monster hit debut single, ‘Kuchi Kuchi’ (Oh! Baby). She never knew how far her song would go. It went as far as becoming an anthem in many households in Africa and beyond.

Many did not even remember that she participated in the West African Idols competition and came top 10 alongside Nigerian musicians such as Timi Dakolo and Omawunmi in 2007.

After Kuchi Kuchi (Oh! Baby), Jodie, released an album, ‘African Woman in 2012 and few singles. Thereafter things took a different turn in her life. However, she is back and in this chat with Sam Anokam, Jodie displayed her strength of character as she bares her mind about her career, her private life, challenges and future.

What took you this long after ‘Kuchi Kuchi’ (Oh! Baby) love’ to release another album?

It took a while, I know, but it wasn’t after ‘Kuchi Kuchi.’ I released an album, titled “African Woman” in 2012 then, a couple of singles in between. Well, you would be right to ask “What took you so long?” – Many people asked the same.

Truth is, life happens. It’s been a roller-coaster for me. I had my distractions. I got pregnant. I got married. I gave birth to a sweet boy with special needs – and you know what that means in Nigeria. I got divorced. I got depressed. I got back up again!

How have you been coping ever since you got divorced?

After crying my eyes out, I tried to numb the pain, so I got a job far away from home, so that I would commute to work very early in the morning and commute back late at night – plus the Lagos traffic – exhausted. It gave me some false comfort, so that I’d be too tired to think and continue the cycle the next day.

I didn’t know I was depressed after a while. I even shaved my hair at some point – I thought it was a fashion statement (I really like hair) – that’s after I had gone blonde. Sometimes, I would put on very heavy make-up, just to add some ‘colour’ in my life. I was restless. I was that way until, one day, still on the job – I had gone to Abuja for an assignment. I was walking back to the hotel I was lodged in, then I found myself praying this so-called prayer. It was full of bitterness and anger – asking God to punish those I believed had hurt me. Then, it was like someone spoke to me in my heart, saying, “but, is that what you really want?” I paused. I then started walking slowly, I was now speaking out, softly, I said, ‘Actually, that’s not what I want, I just want them to see things through my perspective.’ After which, I continued the rest of the prayer, still walking, asking for peace of mind and help to forgive and move on.” I believe that is where healing began.

I started afresh, like a child – I went back to my church choir. I continued with my hobbies – crafting and all. I even learnt a new skill (product formulation from Eudokas Beauty Institute) and opened a natural hair care brand called Kuchi Kuchi – of course, I grew my nappy hair back, and by the way, it is long again. I decided to sing some songs I’ve always wanted to sing, hence my new EP, ‘Songs of Truth’ I decided to live again and by the help of God and with gratitude in my heart, I am living again.

With all what you went through, would you give love another chance?

God is love – nothing but love lives here. I know you are talking about marriage though. If God sends me my Boaz, why not? I will gladly, as I’m still young and ‘everything’ is in very good shape. On the flip side, I’m willing to stay single and celibate if God writes my script that way. Whichever way, I’ll do it with joy!

So, your new EP is gospel of gratitude to God?

‘Songs of Truth’ is made up of four songs I had written long before now – the youngest of the songs should be about 10 years old, while the oldest may be almost 30 years old. I had always wanted to sing gospel music straight up after Idols West Africa, but I was not confident in my choice – I felt I wasn’t “good” enough. Now, I know better – we can never be “good” enough. Also, I listened to others instead of what was in my heart. People advised I sang inspirational songs without adding “God” to it, so that it would sell. Since I wasn’t confident in the first place, I went along with the advice.

When I was having my son in 2016 – there was an emergency CS and I had an epiphany. In that epiphany, I remembered the gospel songs I had written, yet put away till “later” and I had a strong desire to sing them.

Couples who meet through dating apps are more likely to stay together, study finds

Dating apps are often perceived as a platform to find a quick fling, but a study has found they may actually be the best place to find a lasting relationship.

A survey of couples claims those who met online are more likely to stay together than romances which begin in more traditional ways.

So if you've shunned dating apps as the place to find a meaningful connection, psychologists have suggested those using the apps actually have stronger relationship goals and therefore a higher chance of finding that special someone.

A study of 3,235 couples in Switzerland who are over the age of 18 found those who met on dating apps were more motivated to cohabit than those who didn't, as reported by The Sun.

It found women who used apps such as Tinder and Bumble to find a match had more desire to have children, and both men and women who met on them were just as sexually and socially satisfied as other couples.

The survey also found apps help to cultivate long-distance relationships and more diverse couples, especially highly-educated women and less-educated men going on dates.

Before dating apps really took off, websites were the go-to for finding a partner online and the study found these mainly attracted people over the age of 40 and divorcees.

Dr Gina Potarca, of Geneva University, said: "The internet is transforming the dynamics of how people meet.

"It provides an unprecedented abundance of meeting opportunities, and involves minimal effort."

Of course, once you're on the app you still need to make sure you're giving yourself the best chances, from creating the right profile to nailing the opening line.
