Tale of 3 female neighbours, pregnant same time

A woman, Chioma Ugwa-Brown has shared a story about her and two female pregnant neighbours.

All the ladies married about the same time and conceived also about the same time and gave birth, almost simultaneously.

And they all live in the same compound in Lagos, to compare notes and share experiences carrying babies in the womb.

Chioma Ugwa-Brown who shared the amazing story on Instagram wrote;

“One of the best parts about being pregnant for me was I had 2 amazing women who could relate to exactly how I felt at any point in time 😁😁😁

“People thought we planned it , 3 neighbors in the same compound , All newly weds and we all conceived almost at the same time.

“The experience was so so surreal …… We helped each other through it all whether it was deciding who had the energy to cook that day so we could all eat or who had the strength to drive out and run errands or even contributing to order the junk foods we were craving”.

All the three women have delivered their babies, with Chioma Ugwa-Brown, christening her female baby: CHIMAMANDA CAMILLE UGWA-BROWN.

Cleric “caught in bed with married woman” loses marriage

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos State on Monday dissolved the 15-year-old marriage of a cleric, Yusuf Adeniyi, over infidelity.

Yusuf’s wife, Rebecca, 44, sought the dissolution of the marriage, saying that she caught him cheating on her.

Rebecca claimed that she caught her 47-year-old husband with a married woman on their matrimonial bed.

The Court President, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, granted the request, saying that the petitioner insisted on divorce.

“The court is left with no option than to grant your prayer and hereby pronounces the union dissolved.

“The court hereby pronounces the marriage between Mrs Rebecca Adeniyi and Mr Yusuf Adeniyi dissolved.

“Both of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife.

“Each of you should go on his or her separate ways unmolested; the court wishes both of you well in your future endeavours,” he said.

Koledoye ordered Yusuf to be responsible for their children’s feeding, education and general welfare.

Rebecca had also told the court that Yusuf had extramarital affairs with both single and married women.

“I caught him having sexual intercourse with one. I grabbed the woman and tore her clothes.

“I raised alarm; he started begging me not to expose the woman.

“My husband’s behaviour toward me changed after the incident. He no longer gave me money nor cared for me,” she submitted.

The 44-year-old mother of four also claimed that her husband was fetish, saying that he married her with charm.

“I was under the influence of charm in my marriage with Yusuf.

“The wool was pulled off my eyes five years ago but I decided to remain in the marriage because of my children.”

According to her, when her father died, Yusuf did not go for the burial.

Rebecca told the court that she was fed up with the marriage.

Responding, Yusuf admitted having an extramarital affair with a married woman but blamed it on the devil.

“I begged my wife to forgive me but she refused and raised alarm,” he told the court.

The respondent, however, denied being fetish, saying that he never married his wife with any charm.

“It is my wife that is fetish. She frequently visits herbalists and comes home with different substances.”

He prayed the court not to dissolve the marriage, saying that he still loved Rebecca.

We need to assess the physical and mental capability of President Buhari — Oby Ezekwesili

Former minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has called for an assessment of the physical and mental capability of President Muhammadu Buhari over the affairs of the nation.

Ezekweili demanded that a medical panel be set up to assess the President, adding that the condition of Nigeria has become too grave for citizens to sit still.

The former Minister said this on her official Twitter page, stressing that the State house physician cannot be trusted hence the need for an independent panel.

Her posts read: “I think that at this stage and depth of fragility of the Nigeria-State, Privacy has to yield ground to our right to know as citizens, the state of health of Buhari.

“We really must assess the physical or mental capability of Nigeria’ President to carry on the duties of office.

“Citizens can collectively push for an Independent Panel to help us make the critical medical determination of the state of mind and body of our President Buhari.

“The conditions of Nigeria have become too grave for us all to sit still and watch a train wreck in the making.

“As an extremely concerned citizen, I hereby demand for a Medical Panel on Buhari since we obviously cannot trust the State House Physician to provide us accurate information. ”

Ezekwesili emphasised that a mental and physical assessment is important as Nigerians need full disclosure before the situation in the country worsens.

“It is reasonable demand now for citizens to have full disclosure on the state of health of Buhari,” Ezekwesili tweeted..

Barcelona fined €3,000 after Messi dedicated goal to Maradon

Barcelona will have to pay a €3,000 fine, after captain Lionel Messi paid tribute to Diego Maradona, by celebrating in a Newell’s Old Boys shirt on Sunday, SportsMail reports.

Messi celebrated his goal against Osasuna, by taking off Barcelona’s blue-and-burgundy strip to reveal the red-and-black of Newell’s.

Maradona, who passed away last week at the age of 60, played for Newell’s at the end of his glittering career.

Messi also wore the same shirt at the start of his career, making it a fitting tribute.

But the emotional tribute was against the rules of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, who are now poised to fine Barca for Messi’s celebration.

After the game, Messi posted a photo of his tribute alongside an older image of Maradona in the same shirt, adding the message “Farewell, Diego” in Spanish.

Anger spreads as UN says 110 Borno farmers killed

Saturday’s killing of rice farmers at Kwashebe by Boko Haram insurgents in  the  Jere Local Government Area of Borno State attracted strong condemnations from eminent Nigerians and groups on Sunday.

The AFP had on Saturday reported that the insurgents attacked  Kwashebe and killed no fewer than 43  rice farmers.

The terrorists were reported to have tied up the farmers, who were working on rice fields, before slitting their throats.

Although a member of the state Civilian Joint Task Force, Babakura Kolo, who assisted some of the survivors, put the number of people killed at 43,  the United Nations on Sunday said 110 rice farmers lost their lives during the attack.

Groups and individuals, including All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria;   the President of the Senate, Dr Ahmed Lawan; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and the Coalition of Northern Groups, lamented that the attack would affect food security in the country.

On Sunday, the UN shed more light on the attack,  contrary to earlier reports, it said 110 civilians were killed by Boko Haram.

The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr Edward Kallon, who disclosed this, also said, many other persons were injured in the deadly attack by the terrorist group.

Also, the Amnesty International in a tweet on Sunday disclosed that 16 of the victims were internally displaced persons.

But Kallon, in a statement on Sunday,  titled, ‘Statement on attack against civilians in Koshobe, Borno,’ stated, “I am outraged and horrified by the gruesome attack against civilians carried out by non-state armed groups in villages near Borno State capital Maiduguri. At least 110 civilians were ruthlessly killed and many others were wounded in this attack.”

He disclosed that the afternoon attack was carried out by armed men on motorcycles, who murdered men and women, who were harvesting their fields in Kwashebe and other rural communities in the Jere Local Government Area.

Kallon, while condoling with the government and people of Nigeria, also said many women might have been kidnapped during the attack.

He noted, “We have also received reports that several women may have been kidnapped. I call for their immediate release and return to safety. My thoughts are also with the rural communities in the area, who are shocked by the brutality of yesterday’s (Saturday’s) attack and fear for their safety.”

“The entire UN system and the humanitarian community working to provide life-saving and development assistance to the most vulnerable in Borno State are outraged by the incident. Such direct attacks against innocent civilians jeopardize the ability for the most vulnerable people to survive the adversity they are facing, and which we are striving to alleviate.”

The UN described the incident as “the most violent direct attack against innocent civilians this year,” and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

“It is, unfortunately, one of too many such attacks targeting farmers, fishermen and families who are trying to recover some livelihood opportunities after over a decade of conflict. I strongly condemn this attack and any act of violence against innocent civilians and I firmly urge all actors on the ground to respect international laws and humanity,” the UN official stressed.

The global organisation observed that rural communities in Borno State were facing untold hardships, adding that helping them to farm land and rebuild livelihoods were amongst the UN priorities and the only way to avoid the looming food crisis in the state.

It said civilians needed to be protected and spared from any kind of violence.

The statement read, “Innocent women, children and men desperately need food and other support and assistance, particularly at a time when we are recording some of the highest levels of food insecurity in Borno State. We owe to do our utmost to help them survive these difficult times.”

US election: Pennsylvania Supreme Court dismisses Trump’s suit on mail-in ballots

The US state of Pennsylvania’s supreme court dismissed another legal challenge to the election by supporters of President Donald Trump on Saturday, further reducing his already near-impossible odds of overturning the results.

A Republican lawsuit had sought to invalidate mail-in ballots in the battleground state that President-elect Joe Biden won by about 81,000 votes — or to throw out all votes and allow the state’s legislature to decide the winner.

The court dismissed both claims in a unanimous decision, calling the second one an “extraordinary proposition that the court disenfranchise all 6.9 million Pennsylvanians who voted in the general election.”

The lawsuit argued that a Pennsylvania law from 2019 allowing universal mail-in voting was unconstitutional.

The judges said that their November 21 challenge to the law was filed too late, coming more than a year after it was enacted and with the election results “becoming seemingly apparent.”

Pennsylvania officially certified Biden’s victory there on November 24. The lawsuit had also sought to stop certification.

Saturday’s decision follows a long line of similar ones, including a ruling the day before in which a federal appeals court flatly dismissed Trump’s claim that the election was unfair and refused to freeze Biden’s win in Pennsylvania.

Trump has refused to give up on his claims of fraud in the November 3 election despite his repeated court defeats, tweeting bizarre conspiracy theories and vowing to continue his legal fight.

On Thursday, he said for the first time that he would leave the White House if Biden is officially confirmed the winner by the Electoral College on December 14.

But on Friday he tweeted that “Biden can only enter the White House as president if he can prove that his ridiculous ‘80,000,000 votes’ were not fraudulently or illegally obtained.”

Biden, who is to be sworn in on January 20, won 306 votes in the Electoral College to Trump’s 232.

The president-elect has said that Americans “won’t stand” for attempts to derail the vote outcome.

Why Ghana elections must be peaceful, Obasanjo writes party leaders

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says he is concerned about the elections in Ghana not only as an African but also because of its shared colonial history with Nigeria.

Obasanjo, in a three-page letter made public on Saturday, addressed the leaders of Ghana’s leading political parties, National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.

He emphasised the need for peaceful electioneering for the country’s stability.

The document, dated November 20, 2020, was titled ‘Letter to the leadership of New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) on ensuring peaceful, credible and transparent general elections on 7 December, 2020 in Ghana.

In the presidential poll, the incumbent President and NPP candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, will be facing John Mahama of the NDC, a replica of what played out in the 2016 election. Akufo-Addo had, in 2016, defeated Mahama as incumbent president in 2016.

Obasanjo, in the letter issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, sought for building efforts aimed at enhancing mutual trust and confidence among themselves in the relevant national institutions and in the electoral process.

The letter read partly, “I write to you, leaders of the two main political parties in Ghana, to urge you to do all you can to ensure peaceful conduct of the general elections.

“My concern about the elections in Ghana is not only as an African, but also because of our shared colonial history, our anthropological background, and the fact that I began my military career from Teshire, Ghana, and without that, I would perhaps not have been what I am today.

“As leaders of the two main political leaders, this is the legacy you have been entrusted to preserve, heading into elections. Your role is unique in that the NPP and the NDC are the main players; (they) have made significant contributions to the peace and stability of Ghana, and are vested with the capacity, influence, and control to constructively shape national discussions and processes such as the upcoming elections.

“In this vein, the success or failure of the elections, a key aspect of democratic consolidation in Ghana, will largely depend on the posture of the NPP and NDC leadership and how that manifested by the actions of their supporters.”

Governor Zulum leads relatives, residents to bury 43 farmers killed in Borno

Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, led relatives and residents to bury 43 farmers slaughtered by the Boko Haram insurgents.

The funeral held at the Zabarmari area of Borno early morning on Sunday, according to a statement from the state government.

The statement was titled, ‘Zabarmari: Zulum leads horrified kinsmen to bury 43 farmers killed by Boko Haram’, on Sunday.

The victims lived in Zabarmari, a farming community in Jere Local Government Area, famous for rice cultivation and local processing.

They were attacked on Saturday, at Koshebe village, a place in Mafa Local Government Area.

Zulum, during his visit, was told that the death toll was yet to be fully ascertained.

“Your Excellency, as you have seen here, 43 corpses were buried, but others have not been retrieved from the scene of the incident. Nobody can tell you the exact number of people killed. Some of the victims are still missing,” a resident was quoted as telling the governor.

Zulum, who subsequently addressed the bereaved community, said people were living in “very difficult situations”.

The statement quoted the governor as saying, “It is disheartening that more than 40 citizens were slaughtered while they were working in their farmlands. Our people are in very difficult situations, they are in two different extreme conditions, on one side they stay at home they may be killed by hunger and starvation, on the other, they go out to their farmlands and risk getting killed by the insurgents.

“This is very sad. We are still appealing to the Federal Government to ensure the recruitment of more of our youths in the CJTF and hunters into the Nigerian military and the Civil Defence so that they can form part of the agro rangers that will protect farmers. We need many boots to protect farmlands and our youths understand the terrain. We will not lose hope because we have to remain optimistic about ending the insurgency,” Zulum said.

Nigeria thrown into total darkness as national grid collapses

The 54-year-old took the centre of the ring for most of the fight, putting Jones Jr on the back foot and landing punishing body shots throughout the contest.

But some fans have questioned the verdict. Here are some of the opinions tweeted after the fight:

Drunken truck driver falls from Lagos bridge, drowns in river

A truck driver identified simply as Taiwo has met his tragic end after he fell from a bridge in the Kirikiri area of Lagos State and drowned.

Taiwo had reportedly parked a truck on the bridge on Wednesday to have fun, but he got drunk in the process.

while he was sauntering on the bridge, he slipped and fell into the river below and drowned.

Some people who were at the spot at the time reportedly tried in vain to rescue the 32-year-old man, who lived in the Ifo area of Ogun State.

The case was said to have been reported at the Kirikiri Police Station by one Ibrahim who owns the truck.

A police source at the station told our correspondent that Taiwo’s corpse was recovered the following day.

He said, “The deceased driver was reported to be drunk and did not know when he mistakenly walked to the tip of the bridge. He fell and people around the area tried to rescue him. His body floated on Thursday and was recovered.”

The police spokesperson in the state, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident, said Taiwo’s body had been released to his family for burial.

He said, “On November 25, 2020, around 10.15am, one Ibrahim reported at the Kirikiri Police Station that his driver while under the influence of alcohol slipped and fell into Kirikiri river from the bridge.

“Policemen from the station visited the scene for on-the-spot assessment. His corpse was removed the next day and released to the family, who declined to have an autopsy carried out on the deceased.”

Adejobi quoted the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, to have commiserated with the family and advised owners of trucks to always caution their drivers to avoid such incidents.

Insecurity: Governors should assume greater role

THE recent 21st meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum held to discuss insecurity among other issues bore some semblance to serious governance, but largely lacked substance like other similar ones before it. For instance, their resolve to engage religious and traditional leaders, as well as civil society organisations to boost security in the country and their reliance on the federal police and the army amounts to banking on a failed strategy. The entire security system requires a total overhaul with the states assuming greater role in securing the lives and property of citizens.
The subsisting centralised security system has failed. Incontestably, criminal gangs are growing bolder, staining the cities and countryside with blood. In the past few weeks, a string of serious incidents has highlighted the broader trend of organised crime-related violence across the country. On November 14, gunmen kidnapped a lecturer and two children of another member of staff of the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, from their homes located within the institution. The following day, eight students of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, among others, were kidnapped on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. Some bandits had earlier attacked Albasi village in Sabon Birnin in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing 11 persons.
A day after bandits invaded another village, Maraban Kajuru. They killed one person and abducted two others. Bandits, terrorists, armed robbers and kidnappers strike randomly across the country. The Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad III, lamented that Nigerians had been abandoned by their leaders to the mercy of terrorists and bandits who prey on them at will. Depressingly, this is the stark reality of life for millions of Nigerians and their leaders have failed to show enough commitment, creativity, and political will to deal with the problem

2023: APC on its way to extinction, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday described the ruling All Progressives Congress as a party on its way to extinction.

The opposition party alleged that there were underground moves by leaders of the APC to disown the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over his leadership style.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said these in a statement titled, ‘APC has turned Buhari into a lame duck President – PDP …says APC’s plots to disown Buhari cannot sway Nigerians.’

According to the PDP, with barely three years to the 2023 general elections, the APC has turned Buhari into “a lame duck, given the manifest failure of his administration in all sectors of national life.”

The party said, “The frenzy by the APC to commence the 2023 election campaign just a year into President Buhari’s second tenure of four years in office further confirms that APC leaders are now looking beyond its current structure and government, having realised that the next three years under the Buhari-led APC administration would be a waste.

“The underground moves by APC leaders to disown the Buhari administration, given its failures and the conversation about possible change of their party’s name as well as the plot to destabilise the PDP are signs of desperation to hold on to power despite APC’s failures and explicit rejection by Nigerians.”

When contacted, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena, said, “The PDP has lost it. The allegation of the opposition party against our leaders is a figment of their imagination. We ask them to go and pay the salaries of their workers first before talking to us.”

My leg was amputated after I was shot at Lekki Toll Gate — 23-year-old cobbler

Twenty-three-year-old Olalekan Faleye, a survivor of the shooting that attended the peaceful #ENDSARS protest at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, says he has become an amputee after the gunshot injuries he sustained to the leg on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.

He had undergone surgical amputation of his bullet-ridden right leg.

The shooting incident had attracted national and international outcry, with the Lagos State and Federal governments being urged to unravel the identity of the shooters and who deployed them.

Speaking exclusively with PUNCH HealthWise a few days after he was discharged from the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, Olalekan said until the Lekki shooting, he had temporarily worked as a labourer with a construction company in Ikoyi to raise money for his ‘freedom’ as an apprentice cobbler.

He also planned to use whatever was left after his freedom ceremony to rent a shop where he could carry out his cobbler trade.

“Any time we had little or nothing to do at the construction site, I would join the #ENDSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate to demonstrate against Police brutality and bad governance.

“I recalled attending the protest on three different occasions (October 15, 16 and 17) before the soldiers’ invasion on October 20,” he said.

Looking pale and sad, he struggled to recollect the incident of the Black Tuesday, saying the whole episode still feels like a bad dream.

“They (soldiers) arrived in a group and, without warning, started shooting at us. As people ran helter-skelter, I recalled hearing the protest coordinators screaming, ‘Don’t panic, sit on the floor together and keep waving the Nigerian flag.’

“But it was too late. People panicked when they saw the soldiers advancing and shooting at us.

In the panic that ensued, I was hit on the right leg by a stray bullet. The force of the shot was so intense that I found myself on the ground, writhing in pain and with so much blood gushing out of my leg.

“I was there for some seconds, feeling weak and fatigued, before some fellow protesters came to my rescue. I was held by both hands and legs as they continued running while also dodging the flying bullets,” he said.

Olalekan disclosed that after his bullet-riddled leg was tied up with what looked like a shirt, he was rushed along with three other victims of the shooting to Vedic Hospital in Lekki.

“At Vedic, I was denied admission when the medical official saw the state of my bloodied leg,” he alleged.

The 23-year-old said he kept getting weaker as he was being conveyed by the rescue team in search of another hospital.

“That was how I ended up at Grandville Trauma Centre. After examining the leg, one of the doctors who attended to me announced that my limb was in a sorry state because the high-velocity projectile forcefully pierced through the muscles and blood vessels in my leg from one end before coming out at the other end.

“Consequently, I was asked to drop the contact of my parent or guardian because of the complex nature of my case,” he said.

Olalekan’s medical statement, which was written on Grandville’s letterhead and secured by our correspondent, states, “To whom it may concern, OLALEKAN FALEYE MALE/23 years. The above-named patient presented to our facility four days ago (20/10/2020) around 23.28pm due to a gunshot injury to his (R) leg in about 2 hours after the incident.

“He sustained this injury as a result of his involvement in the #ENDSARS protest that occurred at the Lekki toll gate.

“He was initially taken to Vedic Hospital and then brought in here for further management.

“On presentation, GCS 15/15 O2 Sat; 98% pain and severe bleeding from the gunshot site with a point of entry and exit of the bullet. He was unable to lift his leg and move his toes.

“Diagnosis made was (i) leg injury from gunshot (ii) imminent compartment syndrome.”

The medical paper which was signed by a certain Dr. Adebayo and countersigned by Dr. Umukoro further reads, “An exploratory fasciotomy was done on the right lower limb to litigate severed blood vessels. Five units of packed RBCs were transfused over the course of admission as the patient came in with Hb of 5.6g/cll. No pulse (dorsal pedis, tibia post and ant. Arteries) was felt.

“Patient was placed on antibiotics (IV Rocephin, IV Flagyl, treated for malaria (Im arthemeter 160mg) and analgesics.

“Patients relatives have been counselled on the need for an amputation of the patient’s leg but they would need a second opinion. For further clarifications and enquiries, kindly call the hospital.”

Experts say a fasciotomy or fasciectomy is a surgical limb-saving procedure when used to treat acute compartment syndrome.

Argentina police open investigation into possible negligence over the death of Diego Maradona

Argentina police have opened an investigation into possible negligence over the death of football legend, Diego Maradona.

Maradona’s lawyer, Matias Morla, had earlier called for an investigation into claims that ambulances took more than half an hour to reach the football star’s house in response to an emergency call on the day of his death.

A preliminary autopsy report established that Maradona died in his sleep at noon on Wednesday of “acute lung edema and chronic heart failure”.

The prosecutor’s office in Buenos Aires has opened a file to determine the cause of his death, and a family member claimed to the AFP news agency that there were “irregularities”.

“You have to see if they did what they were supposed to do or if they relaxed,” the family member told AFP.

“The nurse made a statement when the prosecutor appeared on the day of Diego’s death, then expanded her statement and finally went on television to say that what she said was forced on her, so there is some contradiction in her statement.”

The prosecutor’s office is awaiting the results of toxicological tests on Maradona’s body.

The three prosecutors working on the case have requested the star’s medical records, as well as recordings from neighborhood security cameras.

Another nurse caring for Maradona was likely the last person to see the star alive, at dawn on Wednesday, prosecutors said in a statement on Friday.

“From his words, it could be established that he was the last person to see (Maradona) alive at approximately 6:30 in the morning,” as the night shift at the star’s house was ending, the statement said.

The nurse, interviewed by prosecutors on Thursday, referred to having found Maradona “resting in his bed, assuring that he was sleeping and breathing normally”.

Maradona’s nephew Johnny Herrera was previously believed to have been the last person to see Maradona, at 11.30pm on Tuesday, He also revealed that his last word were: “I don’t feel well.”

Prosecutors said the nurse present in his house at the time of death told them that she had heard Maradona “moving around inside the room” at 7.30am.

They said that at 12.17pm, Maradona’s personal secretary “requested medical assistance, and an ambulance… was present at 12.28pm, according to film records from the San Andres neighborhood obtained by the prosecutor’s office”.

Several ambulances from other medical service providers arrived later.

Investigators have also established that Maradona’s personal doctor, Leopoldo Luque, had already made an emergency call at 12.16 pm, requesting an ambulance.

The former Barcelona and Napoli star died of a heart attack aged 60 on Wednesday, November 25, just two weeks after being discharged from hospital for a bleed on his brain.

The Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has ordered the Nigeria Police to pay N50million compensation to the family of Daniel Chibuike-Ikeagwuchi popular called Sleek, who was killed by policemen in the state.

The victim’s family had named the Police, Inspector-General, Ibrahim Adamu; the state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan and two others in a suit it filed to enforce the Fundamental Human Rights of the deceased.

A team of policemen shot and killed Sleek around Eleme, Eleme Local Government Area of the state on September 19, 2020 resulting in protests.

The family had prayed the court to declared the killing of their son unlawful and to award N1bn as compensation.

It was, however, learnt that the defendants neither appeared nor filed responses in two sittings.

They were said to have appeared in court on the last-adjourned date of November 23rd when they presented a counter affidavit that was rejected by the court.

In his ruling on Friday, the trial Judge, Justice, S.C. Amadi, granted the four prayers of the claimant and declared that the gruesome murder of Sleek contravened the constitution of Nigeria.

Amadi also held that the failure of Police to arraign the officers, who killed their victim was illegal and awarded N50million against the defendants.

The Lawyer to Sleek’s family, Noble Njoku, described the judgment as justice well-served.

He said it would act as deterrent to men of Nigerian security forces, who use human being as “point and kill”.
