A 22 Year Old Girl was Raped Inside Church in Benin

A 23-year-old lady, identified as Uwaila Omozuwa, has died at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Edo State after she was beaten and raped inside her local church.

It was gathered that Uwaila, who was a 100-level Microbiology student of UNIBEN, goes to read every day at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin, but was unfortunately beaten, raped and hit with a fire extinguisher by unknown men on Wednesday, 27th May 2020.

According to a source, “The church’s security officer had gone to collect the keys to the church from its keeper when he was told that there was someone in the church already .
"He got to the church only to find Uwaila in a pool of blood and next to her was the fire extinguisher which was used to bash her face.

"He ran back to inform the key keeper and his wife, who went to the church to meet her lifeless, thinking she was dead. After careful observation, they noticed she moved her hand and quickly rushed her to the hospital.

"It was at the hospital that Uwaila revealed she was reading all alone when some unknown men came into the church, beat, raped and hit her head with a fire extinguisher. However, she later passed on."

The case was eventually reported to Oregbeni Police Station, but nothing has been done about it so far. Her friends and family have now taken to social media to demand action, using the hashtag #JusticeForUwa.

Youth Narrowly Escaped Death in The Hands of the Nigeria Police.

For Sadiq Abubakar Ibrahim, the year 2020 will not only be remembered as the year COVID-19 pandemic put the whole world on the edge, but it will also be remembered as a year he narrowly escaped death in the hands of the Nigeria Police.

On May 18, Sadiq, a teenage son of Engr Abubakar Yaro Ibrahim, a former Sole Administrator of the National Iron Mining Company, Itakpe, was allegedly shot in the hand by an operative of the police force with Special Tactical Squad (STS) of the Office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The yet-to-be-identified operative would later be quoted to have allegedly told the semi-conscious Sadiq to count himself lucky that the bullet missed him on the head where it was targeted.

In a chat with Daily Trust on Sunday, Sadiq’s father, Engr Ibrahim, said his son was lucky to be alive.

“He is getting better. But he is still in the hospital. Two surgeons – a plastic surgeon and an orthopaedic, operated on him for almost eight hours.

Engr. Ibrahim, who is currently a visiting lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, said his son, a student of School of Basic & Remedial Studies (ABU) Funtua, was shot in his right hand. “They cracked one of the bones around his wrist,” he added.

In an earlier interview he granted PRNigeria, Ibrahim, narrated the incidents leading to the shooting of his son.

He said on the day of the incident, he was preparing to join other members of his family to perform the afternoon prayer (Salatul Zuhr) at about 12.45pm, when the personnel of the STS, who he initially thought were armed robbers, stormed his house.

“I heard several gunshots, and some strange people shouting at the top of their voices at members of my family, while some other people were banging doors, trying to forcibly gain entrance into the house through other doors.

“I rushed downstairs to the main living room of the house to know exactly what was happening and to my greatest dismay I found members of my family laying down on the floor of the living room with their faces down and several armed men were standing keeping watch over them, threatening to shoot anyone that may attempt to run away.”

He said: “They did not enter my house through the main door, in spite of the fact that it was not locked. They instead jumped over the fence between my house and that of my immediate next-door neighbour.

“My son, Sadiq, was performing ablution when they entered the home by jumping over the fence between my house and that of my neighbour; this very manner of entering the house greatly frightened him.

“More so, that one of the operatives pointed a gun at him and pursued him trying to kill him. Sadiq actually assumed they were armed robbers when he saw them. The particular person that shot him had a hairstyle that is not befitting responsible people, making the boy believe they were armed robbers. None of the officers wore protective gear which they normally wear when they are on such operation.

“This cast doubt on the motive of the mission of the STS team.

“The same officer who shot Sadiq told my wife, who at that time they entered our compound was in the kitchen preparing food for children, to open the kitchen door or be shot. One of the children advised her to open for him and she did. But for that invention by the child it could have been a different story. The shock and trauma we were subjected to caused another son of mine to collapse at the interrogation venue. The STS operatives had disgraced us as a family by treating us like criminals without the slightest justification for that.”

On the reason for the raid, Eng. Ibrahim said he later found out at the STS Office at Guzape, Abuja, where they were taken for interrogation that it was connected to a case of kidnapping.

“At the venue of interrogation, we were each asked to make a statement, and it was while we were doing so, that it became evident that they were trying to link us up with a kidnap case. According to them, a Nigerian Army major and one or two other people were recently kidnapped in Kogi State, and the kidnappers demanded a huge ransom before they could be released.

“According to them, they were trying to track the kidnappers when they arrived at a spot (near my house, but on the road which passes in front of it) as the location of the kidnappers when they were last contacted.

“They claimed that the kidnappers asked them to take the ransom to that spot which they automatically assumed to be part of my house,” he said.

On whether the police, who he said abandoned Sadiq in the hospital, had made any contact with him since the incident, Ibrahim told Daily Trust on Sunday that they called one of his sons, who in the heat of the moment, told them not to bother.

He, however, said mobile phones and a laptop collected from his family members, his driver and neighbours by the police since the incident have not been returned. He said he has briefed his lawyer and they are considering a lawsuit against the police.

Efforts to get an update from a spokesman of the police, DCP Frank Mba, was unsuccessful. Several calls to his phone did not connect; however, a text message to him was marked delivered but not responded to.

state of emergency Has been declared in Los Angeles County Over protests

Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles County Friday night amid protests.

The California National Guard is being deployed to Los Angeles in response to large protests being held in the city, according to Mayor Eric Garcetti.

The California National Guard will be used to assist local response to the protests being held, and to maintain peace and safety on the streets.

Garcetti imposed a curfew for the city’s downtown section, saying everyone must be off the streets between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

Several police cars were torched Saturday as some protesters in the city ignored authorities’ call for peaceful demonstrations after a night of violence that saw windows smashed, stores robbed and fires set.

268 stranded Nigerians in China arrives in Abuja Today

At least 268 Nigerians evacuated from China have arrived in Abuja, The Punch confirms.

The flight that conveyed the evacuees landed at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Disclosing this in a tweet, the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the returnees would proceed on compulsory 14 days quarantine as stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

Some of the nationals had faced serial racial discriminations in Guangzhou, China, from provincial officials.

They were reportedly evicted from their apartments and hotels following their alleged refusal to go for the mandatory quarantine imposed by the Guangdong Provincial authorities sequel to the outbreak of coronavirus.

Some Nigerians sent a video of a woman with two children who were staying on the streets.

In the footage, the unidentified woman was feeding her infant daughter as the older second child slept in a baby walker; she was allegedly evicted from her apartment.

But the Chinese authorities said they subsequently provided free hotel accommodations for 207 Nigerians.

The government said the beneficiaries included Nigerians who were evicted from their hotels and apartments by officials in the wake of the compulsory quarantine and testing of foreigners for coronavirus by the Guangzhou Municipal Authorities.

A teenager Dies from stray bullet injuries by Police

Two policemen attached to Bariga Division, Lagos, have been detained after a 17-year-old girl hit by stray bullet on Tuesday night died in the hospital.

The victim, Tina Ezekwe, was hit by the bullet fired by the policemen identified as ASP Theophilus Otobo and Inspector Oguntoba Olamigoke around 10:45pm near the Oworo end of the Third Mainland Bridge.

It was alleged that two other persons sustained injuries, including Musa Yakubu, 35.

The shooting, which was captured on video by road users, attracted public outcry especially with news of the teenager’s death late on Thursday.

Reacting to the incident, police spokesman Bala Elkana said the detained cops were undergoing internal disciplinary procedures and would be prosecuted if found culpable.

He said the Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu has ordered indepth investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ezekwe’s death.

“The incident happened on May 26, at about 10:45pm. The said police officers fired shots from their pin down point along Berger by Third Mainland Bridge in circumstances yet to be determined.

“One Musa Yakubu, 35, was injured at the point and a stray bullet hit Tina at Berger Iyana-Oworo Bus Stop. The bullet pierced through the left upper side of her lap.

“She was rushed to hospital by a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO). The battle to save her life lasted for two days. She died on May 28, at about 9:29pm while on admission. The second person is in stable condition.

“The police have been in contact with the families of the victims from the day of the incident. The command deeply sympathised with the family and friends of the deceased person.

“The Commissioner of Police calls for calm and assures the family that the perpetrators of this dastardly act will face the full weight of the law. He reiterated his stance on zero tolerance for impunity. The public will be updated on the outcome of the investigation.”

five People Reportedly killed in Plateau community By Gunmen

Some gunmen on Thursday night shot and killed five people in a shop at Nzharuvo, Miango community of Bassa local government area of Plateau State.

Miango villages in the Irigwe Chiefdom have suffered series of attacks since January and not less than 50 people have been killed and many others injured during the incidents.

The latest victims included the shop owner said to a retired secondary school teacher and a native of the area who identified himself as Auta said the incident happened at about 9.50pm and gave the names of the victims as Asabe Samuel, Gideon Tunku, Bala Adi Joro, Audu Amadu Mi, and Shedrack Joshua,

The State Police Command had no comment at the time of this report as the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Gabriel Ubah when contacted told Saturday Vanguard, “You will be updated in due course Pls. Thanks. Stay blessed and stay safe.”

However, Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial Zone, Senator Istifanus Gyang said he was saddened by the gunmen attack incident.

Bassa is one of the six local government areas in the Plateau North Senatorial zone.

The Senator in a statement by his Special Assistant, Media and Protocol, Musa Ashoms, “Plateau North again woke up the morning of Friday 29/05/2020 with yet another gory report of a night attack at a Noodles Eatery next to Kent Academy, Miango in Bassa local government leaving.

“Senator Gyang is worried that communities of Irigwe Chiefdom have been the target of repeated attacks for many years resulting in monumental loss of lives and property with several villages reduced to rubble.

“Given the incessant attacks, the area ought to have been designated a Security Flash Point deserving and attracting extra security presence and surveillance, so as to deter and prevent the attacks.

“It is disturbing that the killer herdsmen and bandits (in direct contrast to other peace loving herdsmen of Plateau North), ravaging community after community in Plateau North are known to the Security agencies and intelligence preceding most of the attacks are often availed yet, the needed action and timely intervention is lacking.

“It follows that inability to enforce law and order emboldens criminals and incentivizes impunity as has been the case with the killings in Irigwe land. Senator Gyang is, therefore, crying out that the lives of his people is at risk as communities are left at the mercy of killer herdsmen and bandits.

“Consequently, Senator Gyang is calling on the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Plateau State Governor, Commander Operation Safe Haven and the Commissioner of Police who have the constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the lives and property of citizens to take decisive steps to enforce law and order and end the killings in Irigwe Chiefdom in particular and Plateau North at large.

“Government must not allow merchants of unrest and bloodshed to continue disrupting the peace which the people of Plateau North have resolved to build and consolidate.”

Following the alleged killing of George Floyd, an African-America man, by a police officer, protesters, Friday stormed Minneapolis police station and set the building on fire.

As at the time of filling this report, more people are still trooping in the scene to protest against the killing of Floyd.

George Floyd was the African-American man who was pinned down with a knee by a police officer till he died.

Couple executed by firing squad after trying to flee North Korea

A husband and wife were executed by firing squad after being caught trying to flee North Korea during lockdown.

The couple, thought to be in their 50s, are believed to have been trying to smuggle their 14-year-old nephew across the border back to his parents in South Korea, according to reports.

One local in Hyensan, Ryanggang province, told RFA Korean Service: ‘Earlier this month I heard from an acquaintance in the provincial security department that a family who tried to escape the country was shot to death.

‘They were arrested for attempting to escape [across] the border, which is now heavily controlled due to the national emergency quarantine against the coronavirus.’

The boy, whose father had previously fled to the South, was spared death because of his youth.

But it was claimed his aunt and uncle were tortured into admitting the plan and summarily executed.

Locals said the pair had been having financial difficulties due to the disruption to their business caused by the strict coronavirus quarantine.

North Korean officials have insisted that the disease has not infiltrated the country, despite some being pictured wearing face masks during a meeting back in February.

However, it has closed the land border with China where more than 4,600 are reported to have died after contracting Covid-19 – with most believing the true figure to be much higher.

Sofia Richie speaks on split with Scott... insists she's happy

Sofia Richie has spoken about her split with Scott Disick and has said that their age difference did not have anything to do with their split.
The 21-year-old model addressed issues with Scott, 37, during an interview with Cosmopolitan UK and also exonerated his ex, Kourtney Kardashian, with having any negative influence on their coupling.
Sofia was in defiant mood for the article, which was published 24 hours after the couple announced their split.
She said: "I just don’t care what people think. [It] doesn’t bother me because I’m very happy.
"Why would I let someone from the middle of nowhere ruin that for me?"
Sofia and Scott called it quits after nearly three years together on May 27.
The announcement followed Scott having a brief stint in rehab, which had prematurely given them a break from each other.
An insider told Us Weekly that this had put a strain on their relationship and that it was inevitable that they would go their separate ways.

grandma, 103, cracks open ice-cold beer to celebrate beating coronavirus

A great-great grandmother aged 103 cracked open an ice-cold beer in her bed to celebrate recovering from coronavirus.

Jenny Stejna supped on her favorite Bud Light after overcoming Covid-19 at her nursing home in Easton, Massachusetts, earlier this month.

Jenny’s granddaughter Shelley Gunn is thrilled by her recovery, having said what she feared was her final goodbye to the elderly woman after she was diagnosed with Covid-19.
The senior, who has two children, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, fell ill with a low-grade fever at the start of May.
Jenny’s condition soon worsened, to the point where the elderly woman did not realize what was happening to her, with her stricken family told to say their goodbyes while she was still lucid.
Shelley told Wicked Local Easton that her husband Adam had asked Jenny if she was ready to go to heaven, with the fearless senior replying: ‘Hell, yes!’
Happily, the family’s worst fears did not come to pass, with Jenny, who is originally from Poland, becoming the first of 33 coronavirus patients in her nursing home to recover from the disease. She was pictured savoring the booze afterwards, with Adam Gunn saying the heartening snap sums the grandma’s personality up.
He explained: ‘This feisty old Polish grandmother of ours officially beat the coronavirus.
‘We’re truly very thankful.’ Coronavirus has so far killed more than 100,000 Americans, with the disease particularly dangerous for sufferers over the age of 80.
Nursing homes across the United States have been sealed-off in a bid to prevent the disease spreading, but many have still become hotbeds of the virus, with dozens of residents dying in some of the worst-hit facilities.
