Peter Obi expressed concerns over Nigeria’s economic situation.

In a recent video on Arise Tv, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed concerns over Nigeria’s economic situation, particularly regarding fuel prices and the financial burden on citizens. Speaking on the state of the economy, Obi emphasized that despite slight reductions in petrol prices, Nigerians are not experiencing meaningful relief.

Obi pointed out that while fuel prices have dropped slightly from their peak, the broader economic context must be considered. He highlighted that fuel prices initially stood at about 200 naira per liter before rising beyond 1,000 naira. Though prices have now slightly decreased, he argued that such reductions must be viewed in relation to where they started and the economic realities facing ordinary Nigerians.

He stressed that it is not enough to celebrate minor reductions in fuel prices without considering the purchasing power of citizens. With inflation and the devaluation of the naira, the cost of living has continued to rise, making basic necessities unaffordable for many. He also questioned whether wage increases and economic opportunities have kept pace with these economic challenges, emphasizing that many Nigerians still struggle to afford essential goods.

According to him, "Nigerians are not seeing it. I am one politician who moves around Nigeria, and I know the feeling of the people. About our fuel We started at about 200 naira per liter, then it went over 1,000, and now it's slightly below 1,000. You have to look at where we started. You can’t just say, "Oh, it's coming down." No. Where did we start? What has changed? Consider the income of the average Nigerian—those fortunate enough to have a job."
