Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage retrieved from Joy House Hotel contradicted earlier claims that he had been abducted by unknown gunmen in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
An earlier message that circulated had alleged that Paradang was kidnapped the previous night at gunpoint and taken to an undisclosed location. The message, which appeared to have been shared in a WhatsApp group, urged members to pray for him.
However, further details obtained by a *Nation* correspondent indicated that the former Immigration chief had arrived at the hotel, located in Area 3, Durumi, in his black Mercedes Benz and booked a room for N22,000.
CCTV footage reviewed by police investigators reportedly showed that Paradang was expecting a female companion, whom he had asked one of the hotel staff to escort to his room upon her arrival.
It was further learned that after spending about two hours in the room, the female companion left, but the retired NIS boss did not come downstairs.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “No one suspected anything until this morning when one of his friends, a top military officer, traced his location to the hotel. He got there, saw his car parked, and asked that he was looking for the owner of the car."
Further talking, the source said, "The hotel staff told him the owner was inside his room.It was when they eventually opened the door that they saw him sitting on the chair, dead."
When he was contacted, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, confirmed that the former NIS boss was not kidnapped as earlier reported.
