Oyo Monarch, Aseyin Of Iseyin Accused Of Using Vehicle To Kill Legion Officer While Invading Landed Property

The Zone 2 Police Command, Lagos State, is working on a petition submitted by the family of a legion officer, Jeremiah Edet who was allegedly killed by the personal car of Oba Sefiu Olawale Adeyeri, the Aseyin of Iseyinland, in Oyo State, Nigeria, during the invasion of a landed property.

The family has accused the monarch and the police in Oyo State of trying to cover up the truth about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The family claimed the act was intentional as the monarch and his aides allegedly abandoned the deceased on the road after the incident and refused to take him to the hospital.

SaharaReporters learnt that the incident occurred on Tuesday, 18th March 2025 around Iseyin Laigbe.

The monarch was said to have led some thugs to forcefully invade a landed property being guarded by the deceased legion personnel.

While trying to flee the scene, the official vehicle of Oba Adeyeri allegedly hit him and drove off.

SaharaReporters learnt that the monarch offered N300,000 to Edet’s family after his death.

“What happened was that two legion officers were attached to one woman, a lawyer. They were posted to guard her site at Iseyin in Oyo State. It was later we got to know that the king had been disturbing the woman that he owned the landed property and must get it by all means,” a source told SaharaReporters.

“So on that particular day, they invaded the property. Immediately the deceased took his phone and was about to leave the scene only to be hit by the Oba’s vehicle. The driver of the vehicle immediately drove off. Edet was not taken to hospital until his colleague came and rushed him to Bowen University Teaching Hospital.

“The driver was arrested last Sunday after the officer was confirmed dead. No medical fee was paid by the Oba. We sat with his representative and they offered N300,000 to the deceased’s mother as compensation. Meanwhile, Edet is the only child of this woman, no burial arrangement, nothing at all.

“The police did not allow us to see the vehicle and the suspect as well.”

Calls put across to Oba Adeyeri’s son and spokesman, Prince Ismail Adeyeri were not picked nor returned.

However, a video obtained by SaharaReporters showed representatives of the monarch appealing to the family to take N300,000 as compensation.

A petition to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 command to thoroughly investigate the matter has also been submitted by the family.

It was titled, “PETITION FOR THE TRANSFER, INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION OF THE ASEYIN OF ISEYIN, OBA ABDULSEFIU DAVID OLAWALE OYEBOLA ADEYERI 3 AND JELILI SHITTU OLONA ADEROUNMU FOR THE MURDER OF JEREMAIH DANIEL EDET (REV FADA) OF NIGERIAN LEGION (DECEASED VICTIM).”

The petition read, “We hereby request a thorough investigation into and prosecution of the murder of JEREMAIH DANIEL EDET (REV FADA) OF NIGERIAN LEGION currently at Ojongboju Police Division/Station, Oyo State who we assert was assassinated on Wednesday, 19th March 2025 at Lagbe, Ibadan-Iseyin Road by JELILI ADEROUNMU, (the driver) on the instructions of the OBA ABDULSEFIU DAVID OLAWALE OYEBOLA ADEYERI 3 AND JELILI ADEROUNMU.

“The deceased victim was engaged to secure a project at Olasupo Village which is next to Lagbe Village where he was on the way to pick up/charge his mobile phone in order to communicate with his command on a motor bike and the suspect tailed him from Olasupo Village and cleared the deceased victim off the road from behind, sneaking up on the deceased victim at full speed unknown to the victim.

“The deceased arrived Olasupo Village on Monday, 17th March 2025 together with one other of our member and was murdered on Wednesday which is two days after the got to the project site and began preliminary surveillance.

“After the collusion, the suspect and the ASEYIN OF ISEYIN, OBA ABDULSEFIU DAVID OLAWALE OYEBOLA ADEYERI 3 abandoned the victim who was lifeless and struggling for his life on the road side until the vehicle (murder weapon) was prevented by the community from escaping.

No effort was made by the ASEYIN OF ISEYIN, OBA ABDULSEFIU DAVID OLAWALE OYEBOLA ADEYERI 3 AND JELILI ADEROUNMU to revive the deceased victim or see to his medical treatment or ensure he did not lose his life in any way or manner despite several calls to do so as their aim was to kill the victim who is now deceased.

“The victim eventually succumbed to death on Sunday, 23rd March 2025 at Bowen University Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho. We assert that the motive was to scare the Olasupo Family and prevent the success of the project as the ASEYIN OF ISEYIN, OBA ABDULSEFIU DAVID OLAWALE OYEBOLA ADEYERI 3 and his family are involved in an ongoing land tussle with the Olasupo Family where the project is ongoing.

“Upon the demand for the investigation and prosecution of the case, the Ojongboju Police Division/Station, Oyo State, gave a lukewarm response that indicates they may have been compromised due to the high profile of the ASEYIN OF ISEYIN, OBA ABDULSEFIU DAVID OLAWALE OYEBOLA ADEYERI 3 necessitating this petition to transfer the file from Ojongboju Police Division/Station, Oyo State to Zone 2, Lagos for investigation and prosecution as they have refused to act in this matter appropriately because they have exhibited bias due to the undue influence of ASEYIN OF ISEYIN, OBA ABDULSEFIU DAVID OLAWALE OYEBOLA ADEYERI 3 who neither had or presented registration documents for the vehicle used as weapon for the assassination nor has the suspect presented a driver’s license and have failed to charge the suspect in this matter but they released him on Thursday, 20th March 2025 which is a week to the date of this petition and counting
