I saw bandits standing with arms - AK-47 rifles, so I lay down and started reciting prayers- Anas Yushau

Anas Yushau, a staff member at Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Zamfara State, has shared what he witnessed when bandits attacked the school and kidnapped students from their hostel on February 25, 2021.

Speaking in an interview with Premium Times, Anas said that the attack happened around 1 a.m. He revealed that the bandits first entered his neighbor’s house but found no one inside. After that, they gathered in front of his own house to decide their next move.

Anas explained that he was asleep when he suddenly heard noises outside so he decided to check through the window. He said he saw the armed bandits standing outside, carrying AK-47 rifles and fear gripped him. He said he immediately lay down, reciting prayers and asking for God’s protection. He disclosed that a few minutes later, he checked outside again and saw the bandits in front of the students’ hostel.

In Anas words: "Those bandits came to this school around 1 a.m. They entered my neighbor's house and couldn't find anyone inside. Then they came to the front of my house to decide what to do. I was sleeping here on my bed and I heard some noise outside around 1 a.m., so I was surprised at who could be visiting around that time.

"I decided to look at them through the window, and I saw bandits standing with arms - AK-47 rifles. So I lay down and started reciting prayers, seeking God's protection. After some minutes, when I looked outside again, I saw them leave the front of my house and move to the students' hostel, chasing them out and asking where their staff lived. The students said their staff didn't live around the school premises"
