A well-known saying, "Every day is for the thief, but one day is for the owner," came to pass when Joy, a native of Akwa Ibom State, was arrested alongside other suspects by the Ogun State Amotekun Corps at approximately 6:15 AM on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
According to Daily Trust, it was reported that the victims, aged between 12 and 39, were reportedly coerced into prostitution at the Railway Line Hotel, located along Old Bank Road in Ifo. Fourteen of the victims were trafficked from Akwa Ibom, while the remaining ones were brought from Cross River and Delta states. Reports further indicated that some of the girls tested positive for HIV.
In an interview with DAILY POST, one of the survivors, a 14-year-old JSS3 dropout, whose name was withheld, alleged that they were made to take an oath by Idem Joy. She alleged she was trafficked into Ogun State, from Akwa Ibom State on the 29th of January, 2024.
The victim shared her experience, saying that she was misled about the nature of the job.
She claimed they did not tell her what she would be doing before bringing her from Akwa Ibom. They only told her she would work as a salesgirl when she arrived.
She explained that upon reaching the location, she was given some drugs to take before being forced into the work.
According to her, Idem Joy took extreme measures to ensure they wouldn’t escape.
"She cut some of my hair from my head, saying that if I ever ran away, she would use it to kill me," the victim alleged.
She also revealed that other victims were subjected to similar threats. "For some, she took their pictures, and for others, she collected their blood," she added.
In response to a question about her pay, she said, “Sometimes I make N20,000 per day depending on the turnout. I sleep with 10 to 12 men a day, they pay N1,000 or N2,000 it depends. But we give all the money to our madam."
