A Magistrate's Court in Abeokuta has adjourned the hearing of the alleged assault case involving popular Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, to March 26.
The adjournment was granted to allow the prosecution to consolidate the charges against Portable and his employees. Senior State Counsel, Timileyin Oredein, made the request during the court session on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, arguing that separate trials would be a waste of judicial resources.
Portable and nine of his workers were initially arraigned on February 6, 2025, for various offenses, including conspiracy, assault, and unlawful obstruction while in possession of cutlasses and a firearm. They are also accused of conduct capable of inciting public disturbance and assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
According to Oredein, consolidating the charges would facilitate a more efficient and streamlined trial process. He reminded the court that the defendants were initially arraigned on similar offenses, making it logical to merge the cases.
The court, after considering the prosecution's request, granted the adjournment and scheduled the next hearing for March 26. Portable and his employees are expected to appear in court on the adjourned date to face the consolidated charges and hearing.
