No part of the constitution that says Congress should be postponed because of a wedding–Nyesom Wike

According to Punch Newspaper,The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the dominance of the South-South region in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking at the party’s South-South Zonal Congress in Calabar, Cross River State, on Saturday, Wike described the region as the backbone of the party, emphasizing its unwavering support over the years.

Addressing party members, Wike stressed that the South-South has consistently played a key role in the PDP’s political strength and stability. He urged delegates at the congress to remain committed to the party’s unity by electing officials who will defend and uphold its principles. According to him, the region has always been PDP’s stronghold and will continue to be a force within the party’s structure.

The congress, which sparked some controversy, witnessed active participation from party stakeholders. Wike, however, dismissed concerns about delegate participation, stating that no congress or convention has ever had full attendance. He urged members to focus on strengthening the party rather than being distracted by internal disagreements.

In his remarks, Wike also criticized suggestions that the congress should be postponed due to personal commitments of some members, such as weddings or travel plans. He argued that party activities must take precedence, as they are crucial to sustaining PDP’s influence in the political landscape.

The South-South region has remained a major pillar of the PDP since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999. Wike’s statement reinforces the party’s confidence in its dominance in the region, despite challenges within the political space. As the congress concluded, party members were encouraged to work together to maintain the South-South’s strong presence in national politics.

He said, “The South-South Zone is the strongest zone of the PDP in Nigeria. It has always been and will always be. There is no part of the constitution that says Congress should be postponed because of a wedding or travelling, “he added.
