After the revelation by former military President General Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) in his book "A Journey in Service" that the 1966 coup was not an Igbo coup, the Igbo apex group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, demanded an apology and ₦10 trillion in compensation from President Bola Tinubu .
The group emphasized that the coup had disastrous repercussions on the Igbo people, leading to the Biafra War and the loss of approximately three million Igbo lives.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo stated that the apology and compensation are necessary to address the historical injustices and systemic marginalization faced by the Igbo people. They also extended forgiveness to General Babangida and others involved in the atrocities committed during the Biafra conflict
