A woman has narrated the shocking experience of how her husband fell into a collapsed soakaway that was dangerously constructed inside their room at a residential building located along Awan Fani, near Airport Road.
In a recent interview with Brekete Family, the victim’s wife revealed that the poorly constructed toilet was known to the tenants, who avoided the room due to safety concerns. However, during their relocation process, the floor caved in, causing her husband and a helper to fall into the soakaway.
“We were preparing for our wedding, and my sister wanted to move in and pay for the remaining months. While packing, my husband called someone to assist him. During the process, they both fell into the collapsed soakaway,” she explained.
The accident caused severe injuries to her husband, including damage to his neck, leg, and hand. Despite immediate medical attention, he continues to suffer from pain and requires regular hospital visits.
Efforts to get the landlord to take responsibility have so far yielded no results. According to the victim’s wife, the community leader and even a "president" from a local association contacted the landlord, but no action has been taken.
“The landlord promised to cover the medical expenses if we withdrew our police report, but nothing has been done,” she added.
The family also suffered property damage, including a broken television, a missing sewing machine head, and the loss of a wedding ring.
Despite the severity of the incident, the police have reportedly refused to visit the site, and the landlord has started digging a new soakaway to prepare the house for new tenants without addressing the existing hazards.
Local authorities are now being urged to intervene and hold the landlord accountable for negligence.
