Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has stirred reactions on social media with a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter), which many believe was directed at former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. This came shortly after El-Rufai’s interview with Arise TV on February 24, 2025, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and hinted at seeking another political platform.
In his post, Sani wrote:
"Neither in the present nor in the nearest future; No Nigerian President in his right senses will ever closely embrace or trust a man who repeatedly celebrated and gloated about sending President Yar’adua to his grave. It’s a case of ‘if you can do this and say this about your own brother, what about me?’ No one will ever admit a man into his house who came with a sword stained with the blood of his brother."
Though he did not mention any names, the timing of the post and its reference to former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua led many to speculate that Sani was referring to El-Rufai. The former governor has previously been accused of making controversial remarks about Yar’Adua, fueling long-standing criticisms from political opponents.
The statement comes in the wake of El-Rufai’s remarks on Arise TV, where he said:
"I am not leaving the APC, but the APC has left me… I may have to find another platform to pursue the progressive values that I believe in if I can't find them in the APC."
Sani and El-Rufai have had a history of political rivalry dating back to their time in the APC before Sani’s exit. Over the years, they have traded words on governance, policies, and political loyalty.
Sani’s latest post has reignited discussions on El-Rufai’s political future, trustworthiness, and his standing among Nigeria’s political elite. With the 2027 elections approaching, the former governor’s next move remains a topic of intense speculation.
